I have been reading stories since I was in grade school, where I first got my hands on some books with stories. I remember my first favorite story was of Henny Penny and her eggs. Since then, I have read hundreds of books--I'd love to say thousands but I'm such a slow reader these days, I know I'd be lying. :P And I'm not even so picky with the genre; I read almost anything with a plot. That's probably why I love TV and movies as much as I do books. I just love stories. Now, I have heard about George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series from a friend years ago. And this particular friend loves books as much--maybe even more--as I do. She told me I'd love them because she knows I love fantasy books. And I believe her because she always gives good advice when it comes to books. (She's the one who introduced me to Dean Koontz, after all.) I even bought the first four books on a whim when I spied them at my fave bookstore a couple of years ago. But, as was my habit, after I bought them I just put them on my to-read heap near my bed and completely forgot about them... until about a month ago.
And boy, am I glad I found these tomes among my ever growing to-read heap! The book was awesome. I finished the HBO series before I finished the first book, and the book just perfectly filled in the gaps in the series that I just couldn't help jumping up and down when I flipped on to the last page. It gave me goosebumps. Mr. Martin's style of writing chapters in the characters' POV was brilliant. The whole book read like a very beautiful fantasy soap. No wonder the HBO series was equally beautiful.
Now, I'm reading the second book and, I have to admit, found myself stuck a bit with Theon's chapter but Mr. Martin's prose is still every bit as lovely and fascinating as it was in his previous tome. I can't wait for the second season of Game of Thrones! :D
Winter is coming!!!
Postscript:
When I got stuck with cocky Theon's chapter, I was able to sneak in the first book of L.J. Smith's "The Secret Circle"
and Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games".
The latter was way more exciting to read than the former, but the former was a faster read than the latter. All in all, I have read 3 books in two months, which is not bad really... considering I'm not actually much of a power reader.
Sooooo... May the odds be ever in your favor, all you bibliophiles out there. :D
dropping by... :)
