Say "Aye!" if you Heart Books!

I have been reading stories since I was in grade school, where I first got my hands on some books with stories. I remember my first favorite story was of Henny Penny and her eggs. Since then, I have read hundreds of books--I'd love to say thousands but I'm such a slow reader these days, I know I'd be lying. :P  And I'm not even so picky with the genre; I read almost anything with a plot. That's probably why I love TV and movies as much as I do books. I just love stories. Now, I have heard about George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series from a friend years ago. And this particular friend loves books as much--maybe even more--as I do. She told me I'd love them because she knows I love fantasy books. And I believe her because she always gives good advice when it comes to books. (She's the one who introduced me to Dean Koontz, after all.) I even bought the first four books on a whim when I spied them at my fave bookstore
a couple of years ago. But, as was my habit, after I bought them I just put them on my to-read heap near my bed and completely forgot about them... until about a month ago.

And boy, am I glad I found these tomes among my ever growing to-read heap! The book was awesome. I finished the HBO series before I finished the first book, and the book just perfectly filled in the gaps in the series that I just couldn't help jumping up and down when I flipped on to the last page. It gave me goosebumps. Mr. Martin's style of writing chapters in the characters' POV was brilliant. The whole book read like a very beautiful fantasy soap. No wonder the HBO series was equally beautiful.

Now, I'm reading the second book and, I have to admit, found myself stuck a bit with Theon's chapter but Mr. Martin's prose is still every bit as lovely and fascinating as it was in his previous tome. I can't wait for the second season of Game of Thrones! :D

Winter is coming!!!

Postscript:
When I got stuck with cocky Theon's chapter, I was able to sneak in the first book of L.J. Smith's "The Secret Circle"

and Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games".

The latter was way more exciting to read than the former, but the former was a faster read than the latter. All in all, I have read 3 books in two months, which is not bad really... considering I'm not actually much of a power reader.

Sooooo... May the odds be ever in your favor, all you bibliophiles out there. :D

A blessed month... this one we call January

Many of my friends and some of my family were born this month. I do not exactly know if they were born on gloomy or sunlit days. But I do know this, my world has been made more beautiful because they were. More specifically, four of my most favorite people in the world were January babies. *Bella Dona* (10th) She is one of the wisest and kindest people I know. She has both been a staunch supporter and chastiser in my world. She transforms into one or the other from time to time, whichever I need the most at that time. And she is among the first to turn 31 in our batch this year. Hehehe! But never you mind, Don. 31 is just a number. What matters is that your heart is in the right place. Right? Right! :D *Lovely Lola Natang* (25th) She was my first ally ever since I came out and greeted the world with my annoying baby cries. She was the one who first took care of me when my Mama immediately went back to work after my natal day. And she was always the first to enthusiasticall...

The Dark Horse by Marcus Sedgwick

If you're one of my cyber friends, you'd think I barely read these days because of the lack of book posts I've done lately. But actually, I'm still at it... at a much slower pace, albeit. But I'm still at it. I'm just so overwhelmed with other stuff that I barely have time to write for fun, which I think is quite sad. Downright depressing sometimes, I tell you! Anyways, the last book I've finished--that I could still remember--is The Dark Horse by Marcus Sedgwick. I've had this book for years. You see, I collect books I think I want to read and just dump them in boxes whenever my bed becomes too crowded and start to smell like an old library. So I have tons of books I've had for years but never really read. Lately though, I've been rummaging inside the aforementioned boxes because people have been asking to borrow some of my books. And the nerd in me gets excited when I get to convince people to read... so rummaged the boxes, I did. And in ...

Getting sunburned in Daanbantayan

I went to this nice resort in Daanbantayan for a weekend trip last month. And no, this is not the island, this is still within the main island of Cebu. Ley and I took the bus. This is not the bus terminal. I took this at one of the pit stops. :P It's been so long since I took the public bus somewhere that I forgot you buy the ticket while the bus is already running, not before you board the bus. Yup, I was a bit of an ignoramus that day, or a really amnesiac person. Haha. Anyways, while we were on the bus, I fell asleep. And since I took the window seat, this  was what happened... And it hurt like the dickens!!! :(   But the place was lovely.  We arrived at the resort around noon.  The place was lovely and I couldn't stop taking pictures. :D ... even when the weather got a tad gloomy late that afternoon. When dusk came, I was excited to take some twilight shots, which are among my faves. The next day, Ley and I took more...
